Sometimes, the thing keeping us trapped isn't the danger outside, but the fear we've allowed to control us. When the house collapses at the end, it feels symbolic. Their old world of fear and isolation is finally destroyed, forcing them to step back into an uncertain world. In the end, the last house isn't just where they lived. It's the last place they could hide from fear.
